05/14/2018

The new indie APPS Music & SZIGET: Awards announced the names of finalists. The shortlist for the category “Europe” includes the bands KADNAY, [O] and YUKO as the favourites in the experts’ vote, while Lviv Dance Club and My Last Attempt were selected via fan voting on the Awards website.

On May 26, the Atlas club in Kyiv will host the final concert and the APPS Music & SZIGET: Awards ceremony, where the band who will perform at the Sziget Festival 2018 will be announced. In addition, the winner in the “Europe” category will receive a cash prize of UAH 15,000.

During the concert, there will be a chance to win 2 week tickets for SZIGET. Entrance to the final is free, prior registration is required: https://goo.gl/forms/XSgtSnIxhtBxheqh2.

The selection of acts in the “Europe” category was held in three stages. The bands sent applications for participation, which were carefully revised, and a long-list of 50 names was formed. Then came the vote of the fans for these bands on the website parallel with the vote of 8 music experts. Each member of the jury chose their top-3, the results were added up, and thus the top three among the experts were selected. The two finalists on the website were determined by a transparent and open voting by the fans.

As of today, the most likely winners in the second “Young” nomination are already known: CODÂNE, H A W X, [O], Palmo X, Siberian Sun, SLOW ACTION, Ulmo Three, Very The Jerry and YUKO. The winner among the bands that made their first release (song, album or music video) within the last year will be judged not by the release itself, but as an artist on the whole – their productivity, relevance and prospects will be evaluated. One of these artists will receive a cash prize of UAH 20,000 at the finals on May 26, which will give them a chance to further realize their talents.

The Awards

APPS Music & SZIGET: Awards APPS Music & SZIGET: Awards is a collaboration between APPS Music Awards, which has already explored the state of Ukrainian independent music last year, and Sziget Festival, one of the most well-known festivals in the world, where any musician would be honoured to play.

The selection of Ukrainian bands to perform on the Sziget stage has already been held in our country twice: in 2015, ONUKA won the contest, and in 2017 – Atomic Simao. The APPS Music Awards was first held in the summer of 2017. The winner in the category "Breakthrough of the Year" was Indytronics, and Be My Guest won in the nominations "Video of the Year" and "Song of the Year".

APPS Music is a music award founded in 2017, which aims to seek out new acts in rock and electronic music. First listeners, and then the leading representatives of the country’s music scene choose the best of the best via voting. They do not make stars out of no-names, but help talented underground performers be noticed.
