Sometimes what looks complicated and confusing at first glance hides a very simple truth. This can be said, for example, of food labels, the composition of which sometimes reminds us almost of a recipe for a nuclear bomb. However, it is not like that! A quick trip into the world of food technology quickly dispels the haze of mystery.

What is taurine? A substance of natural origin and the most common amino acid in the human body. It is often prescribed as a useful supplement by doctors and is even included in infant formulas, not to mention in regular foods such as meat or grapes. The positive effect of the substance on the brain, as well as helping to protect the liver from toxic damage, has been scientifically proven.

No less an intricate word – glucuronolactone – is also very much present in our bodies. This component is found in human connective tissues such as ligaments, cartilage and bones. It is present in most carbohydrate foods, and as a bio-supplement provides extra energy during intense exercise.

Both substances are usually ingredients in energy drinks, naturally contributing to increased mental activity and rapid regeneration. “The combination of taurine, glucuronolactone and caffeine in one drink does not cause side effects and is safe for human health. And the level of content of these substances, even in a few cans of energy drinks, is much lower than the maximum allowable amount”, says the author of a new column for the website 24tv.ua Oleksandr Kushch.

The sports medicine doctor, nutritionist, therapist, expert in the development of the “Single Fitness Standard of Ukraine” and a participant in the initiative “Consume Sensibly” talks more about taurine and glucuronolactone in his new article.
