The interests of consumers are number one issue for New Products Group. So, as a market leader, the Company delivers public the information on importance of moderate and reasonable consumption of low-alcohol drinks. It also implements active policy against the sales of low-alcohol drinks to minors. The sign “Consume Reasonably” on the Company’s products has the same meaning.
Low-alcoholic drinks are produced using rectified ethyl alcohol of premium class, concentrated juices (apple, multifruit, lemon, lime, etc.) and alcoholates. Low-alcohol drinks may also include:
- acidity regulators – citric acid, sodium citrate;
- food flavorings (only natural). For example, ROGER’S cocktail contains natural “rum” flavoring;
- food dyes;
- sulphite ammonia caramel — natural or identical to natural dye. It is a thick viscid pleasantly aromatic liquid of dark brown color;
- carbon dioxide (carbonic acid) — if drink is carbonated. Unlike carbonic acid which is exhaled through lungs, carbonic acid which gets into the stomach of human with a drink facilitates digestibility of the ingredients of the drink. Carbonic acid in the body facilitates the process of digestion; improves the secretion of gastric fluid, therefore, the liquid supply, resulting in fast thirst quenching. Carbonic acid has a refreshing effect, as well as antiseptic characteristics, and is a good preservative.
Low-alcohol cocktails are not recommended to people under 18, pregnant and nursing mothers, as well as elderly people and those, who have poor acceptability of any of the ingredients in the drinks.
Low-alcohol drinks as any alcohol are safe, if used moderately, not exceeding the recommended dose and taking into account individual contraindications. According to international norms, this dose is 10 millilitres of absolute (100%) alcohol (ethanol). It should be noted that one bottle of low-alcohol cocktail (0.35 l) corresponds to two doses. One dose easily splits and excretes from the body of healthy adult within an hour.
Alcoholism biologically is not connected to specific drink — it’s an illness, caused by immoderate consumption of any alcohol (vodka, wine, beer, spirit, etc.). As researches show, alcoholism has “social roots”. Among them are unemployment, tensions in the family, lack of confidence in the future, and also genetic predisposition.
The share of low-alcohol drinks in alcohol industry of our country makes 1% of all the drinks in terms of 100% alcohol. As for tendencies in demand, according to information of “NOVAK” Association, in 2014, the volume of sales of low-alcohol drinks in Ukraine made 9.2 million decalitres, which is 1.3 million decalitres less than in 2013 (-12.38%).
Manufactured cocktails contain only quality spirits and other ingredients. When purchasing and mixing vodka with different additives, you cannot be sure in its original quality. According to the estimates of “Ukrvodka” Association, 40% of vodka is produced illegally. Thus, there is a risk, that you will prepare the cocktail of poor quality.
New Products Group constantly works with consumers, explaining them the importance of compliance with recommended norms of consumption of energy drinks. The sign “Consume Reasonably” on the Company’s products has the same meaning.
According to EFSA experts’ estimates, the following daily dosages of caffeine are considered to be safe: up to 400 mg for adults and 200 mgs for pregnant women and teenagers. According to them, such dose is calculated based on 5.7 mg/kg of the body weight of an adult and around 3 mg/kg — for other category of consumers.
Interestingly, according to the scientists of Belarussian Laboratory of Food Analysis (BelMAPO), a human gets 97% of caffeine from coffee, tea, cola and chocolate. At the same time the share of energy drinks in the “caffeine” diet does not exceed 2%. At that, the experts marked that mid-portion of tonic water (250 ml can) contains 74 mg of caffeine, less than in a cup of coffee of the same volume (91 mg).
They are people with cardiovascular diseases, children and people suffering from insomnia.
The basic source of carbohydrates and energy in drinks.
Stimulates central nervous system by diminishing general weakness, increased fatigability and drowsiness. Raises blood pressure, intellectual working and physical capacity, stimulates sexual function. Reduces the level of cholesterol and glucose in blood, activates operation of adrenal glands.
Chemical composition guaranine is identical to caffeine from other sources, such as coffee, tea or mate. Also guarana includes vitamins B, A and E. It has stimulating, antioxidant and antibacterial effect. It is of big interest in terms of the impact on cognitive abilities.
Folic acid (vitamin B9)
Water-soluble vitamin, necessary for growth and development of the circulatory and immune systems.
It is one of the forms of vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is used as a stimulator in body metabolism. It is coenzyme of protein involved into processing amino acids and regulating the uptake of protein. Pyridoxine is involved in production of blood cells and their dyeing pigments – hemoglobin, and in even supply of cells with glucose.
Pantothenic acid is required for metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, amino acids, synthesis of vitally important fatty acids, cholesterol, histamine, acetylcholine, and hemoglobin. The most important effect of panthothenic acid is its ability to stimulate the production of adrenal hormones – glucocorticoids, which makes it a powerful tool for the treatment of such diseases as arthritis, colitis, allergies and heart diseases.
Vitamin, hypolipidemic and specific antipellagric remedy. It is involved into metabolism of fats, proteins, amino acids, purines, aerobic respiration, glycogenolysis and biosynthesis processes. Expands small blood vessels (including those of brain), improves microcirculation, has a weak anticoagulant effect, improving fibrinolytic activity of blood. It also has detoxication effect.
It is used in drinks as an antioxidant. It is one of the main substances in the human diet, which is necessary for the proper functioning of connective and bone tissue. It has biological function of reducing agent and cofactor of some metabolic processes. It improves bile secretion, restores exocrine function of pancreas and incretory function of thyroid. It increases body’s resistance to infections.
Stimulates central nervous system, strengthens heart function, accelerates pulse, causes vasoconstriction and has diuretic effect. In medicine caffeine is used as a component in medications for headache, in treating migraines, as stimulator of breathing and heart activity in treating cold-related diseases, to increase of mental and physical capacity, and to remove drowsiness.
Taurine is involved in lipid metabolism, improves energy and metabolism processes, and it is a component of bile acids (taurocholic and taurodeoxycholic acids) contributing to emulsification of fats in the intestine. In the central nervous system it performs inhibitory neurotransmitter function and has some anticonvulsant effect.
White tea extract
Contains vitamins C, PP, vitamins of B group, microelements, amino acids and a big number of other ingredients. It is one of the best remedies for chronic fatigue syndrome.
Schisandra chinensis (schisandra) extract
Helps in case of fatigue, decreased performance and activities involving big neuropsychic and physical activities. As fart of comprehensive treatment, it is used in case of sexual dysfunction affected by neurasthenia.
Scientists of European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have found that moderate consumption of caffeine, which is the main component of energy drinks, does not harm human health.
European researchers also noted that the widespread belief about the danger of caffeine consumption along with taurine and glucose is more myth than truth. According to them, such mix of ingredients is completely safe and can be part of a healthy lifestyle when consumed moderately.
According to EDA, energy drinks are widely available in 170 countries, including all countries of European Union. As for Ukraine, we enter TOP 3 of countries with the lowest consumption of energy drinks in Europe. For example, in 2014 the consumption of energy drinks made 0.7 l per person. As a comparison, in Austria this index reaches 11.4 l, and in England — 10.1 l. At that energy drinks make only 1% among all alcohol-free drinks consumed in Europe. Japan occupies the first place in consumption of energy drinks.
Energy drinks of New Products Group have different amount of caffeine — from 30 to 35 mg/100 ml (0.1 l). The drinks mostly contain 35 mg/100 ml.
Specialists of SCF and EFSA confirm that consumption of energy drinks with alcohol does not harm health. The effect of alcohol in cocktails like vodka/juice, vodka/energy drink or vodka/ cucumber brine is identical and depends upon the amount of alcohol in drink.
As far as one cannot compromise in quality issues, the Company takes only prepared artesian water with optimal mineral composition to produce drinks, as salt excess causes flocculation while the beverages are stored. Drinks prepared on hard water (with excess of calcium and magnesium salts, as well as iron salts) have a rough taste.
Artesian water is processed in several stages: disinfection, removing iron excesses and hardness salts. The water is delivered to the plant from nine wells, fully providing enterprise’s needs in raw materials.
The taste of water depends on mineral composition; organic substances and their decomposition intensity; temperature of water and presence of air gases.
High concentration of sulfates gives water a bitter taste; concentration of chlorides gives salty taste, and concentration of salts of iron and manganese gives inky and ferruginous taste. Water has the greatest refreshing effect at the temperature of 7-11 degrees. At more than 15 degrees, gustatory characteristics of water decrease and it badly quenches the thirst.
Actually, it differs much. Firstly, bottled water may be either natural (originally clean and fully retaining its structure) or prepared. Enterprises that bottle prepared water pick up a special set of filters providing effective water purification from a particular well. Industrial filters are universal, so are not always effective. One can determine appropriate complex of water treatment in each particular case only after extensive research. In addition, the water treatment system (filters) requires regular maintenance and change of the consumables. Otherwise, the filter itself becomes a source of water contamination.
