“Kraplya do Krapli” – health for everyone. Results of the last month of 2020 and a new educational campaign from the most successful blood donation project in Ukraine

19.01.2021

The past year has been a landmark year for the resumption and establishment of the donor movement in Ukraine. But most importantly, it has brought hope to the lives of thousands of Ukrainians who are dependent on the goodwill of volunteer blood donors. All this happened due to the fact that in October 2020 the project “DonorUA” and the brand “Pryrodne Dzherelo” established a charitable donor initiative “Kraplya do Krapli”, which in just three months managed to raise 382 371 UAH in financial assistance, attract 1457 new volunteer donors and, as a result, save 4371 lives. The rapid growth of indicators demonstrates that the project is developing, moving forward and forming a strong base of public support.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who joined our team in 2020, believed in us and in our common dream to make the world a little better! We wish each of you that in the new year your kindness and empathy gets rewarded by the fulfillment of your most cherished dreams. You can buy drinking water for regular consumption – and on the other end of that transaction, someone’s family gets to see a new day. So your support is invaluable, it inspires us to improve the project and organize new ways to improve the health of Ukrainians: both those who need blood and those who donate it. Our common success only proves that “together we are an ocean” and that water really matters, especially when it can save lives”, – said Elena Selyutina, Communications Director of New Products Group, the manufacturer of artesian drinking water “Pryrodne Dzherelo”.

The last month of the difficult 2020 was full of interesting ideas, important events and new friends for the “Kraplya do krapli” project. In December, the campaign to deliver “Pryrodne Dzherelo” to Ukrainian regional blood centers continued: in Kyiv (“Okhmatdyt” and “Blood Center of the National Military Medical Clinical Centre”), Dnipro (KP “Dnipropetrovsk Regional Blood Transfusion Station”), Kharkiv (KZOZ “Kharkiv Regional Blood Service Centre”), as well as Lviv, Kamyansky, Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih. On December 22, the annual event “Warmest Donor Day” was held at the Park Inn by Radisson hotel. The organizers of the “Kraplya do Krapli” project presented to guests their conceptual platform, the mechanism of involvement, and told about the importance of consuming clean water for the donor. An important event of the month was that the initiative became known among people who are able to influence the general population – leaders of public opinion. Singer Yevhenia Vlasova and actor and co-owner of the Mamakhohotala studio Yevhen Yanovych were the first to publicly express their support for the project in a special video address to their fans.

Another important launch, that began in November, continued in December – an information and education campaign for potential blood donors. As part of the educational series, everyone has the opportunity to learn from experts and opinion leaders on the most important aspects of donation, ask questions and dispel doubts about blood donation. At the webinar on December 28, Oleh Shvets, an expert in healthy eating and president of the Association of Nutritionists of Ukraine, comprehensively covered the topic “Proper diet for donors” as an important factor in achieving high blood quality and noted the following: “Healthy eating is available to each of us. Moreover, it is necessary to monitor the donor’s nutrition not only on the eve of the blood donation procedure, but also in the period between blood donation and / or its components, i.e. constantly. Malnutrition, which directly affects the quality of blood components, is also a contraindication to blood donation. The donor must receive a certain amount of protein, fat, iron, mineral salts every day, as well as drink plenty of fluids.” The purpose of the January educational event is to work on the eating habits of Ukrainians in order to preserve health and improve blood quality, as well as to remind once again about the dangers of self-medication.

“The first condition for high blood quality is, in fact, the health of the donor! Unfortunately, Ukrainians still don’t have a strong habit of supporting their own health, and because of that not everyone can become a blood donor. However, everyone can join the charitable initiative “Kraplya do Krapli”, under which, by choosing the artesian water “Pryrodne Dzherelo”, the consumer not only benefits themselves, but also becomes part of major changes, and saving someone’s life”, – said Iryna Slavinska-Ritzner, founder of DonorUA.
